ABSTRACT PAINTING GROUP SHOW OPENS AT THE BOTTLE FACTORY

A new group exhibition has opened at The Bottle Factory, exploring abstraction through the work of six intergenerational artists.

Curated by OHSH Projects, SLAB bridges three generations of abstract painters – Basil Beattie RA, Alice Delhanty, Albert Irvin, Kes Richardson, Liliane Tomasko and Lucienne O’Mara.

United by a shared connection to south London, these artists reflect on the enduring power of abstract painting and its ability to traverse time, material, and meaning.

The physical presence of these paintings is amplified by their scale: monumental canvases that function as both surfaces and structures, forming walls within the exhibition space.

This is the latest exhibition in a new series of activations at The Bottle Factory – our home for makers, creatives and urban industry stalwarts in a restored Victorian warehouse, tucked away off the Old Kent Road.

The exhibition is open Thursday – Saturday, 12:00 – 17:00, until 8 February, or by appointment, and closes 29 March 2025

The title SLAB suggests weight, solidity, and permanence—qualities that stand in contrast to the fluidity and transience inherent in painting.

Across the exhibition, works that begin in motion — gestural, instinctive, expressive — become fixed in time, their marks solidified into lasting forms.
