Shaping a more sustainable world has always been at the heart of what we do at Fabrix.

With that in mind we’re incredibly proud to be the first UK developer to purchase structural steel for reuse – taking us one step closer to our goal of introducing circular economy principles across all our projects.

In a UK first, we will be reusing 139 tonnes of steel reclaimed from a demolished office building in the City of London across two of our projects – Roots in the Sky and 55 Great Suffolk Street.

The British Constructional Steelwork Association (BCSA) is now drafting the first industry guidance for the purchase and reuse of reclaimed steel. By setting a precedent for open market purchases of used materials we’re hopeful others will follow.

Currently almost no steel is disassembled, recertified and reused. The vast majority is smelted down and recycled, which is five times more carbon intensive than reuse.
