Now in its sixth year, The Great Get Together Bankside is part of a nationwide series of community events inspired by the memory of the late Jo Cox MP, whose message from her first speech in Parliament was “We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us.”
We were delighted to take part again in June with long-standing partner and local community organisation Living Bankside, which drives the event as part of its ceaseless work representing local people and nurturing positive change in the area.
Over 6,000 people took part in the festivities, including the Bankside Bake Off, Dog Competition, Wacky Races, workshops, face-painting, music and performances in Borough Yard and along Park Street, with local cultural institutions including Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe.
Thank you to everyone who came along – it was a total treat, as ever, to have the chance to talk with so many local people and catch up with some familiar faces too.
A UK-wide celebration of what unites us in memory of the late Jo Cox MP, bringing communities together to bridge divides and to tackle loneliness.
