We are proud to have been one of the 19 businesses who took part in the Mayor of London’s Business Climate Challenge pilot, launched last year in partnership with Sustainable Development Capital, C40 Cities and Better Bankside, to accelerate the decarbonisation of London’s commercial bookings.
The challenge is immense. 26,000 non-domestic buildings need to be retrofitted every single year in London, with a 39% reduction in energy demand, if we’re to meet the capital’s 2030 Net Zero target. Only a fraction of that is currently being achieved.
The time for action is now and initiatives such as the Business Climate Challenge and the Recovery Board’s Retrofit Call for Action are a critical part of getting us there.
We shared our experiences of the programme and wider insight into the impact that building management and retrofit measures can have on energy consumption at the London Climate Action Week event ‘Business Climate Challenge: Towards Net Zero for Buildings’. Other speakers included Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy Shirley Rodrigues and Mark Watts, Executive Director of C40 Cities.
On the back of the success of the pilot the Mayor has committed £1million to expand the Challenge in 2022, with the ambition to have 250 businesses on board in partnership with nine London BIDs.
